Going Out To Buy A Mattress

By now you will have chosen a type, size and design of bedding mattress, and are ready to go out looking, and potentially buy one.

When you walk into the shop, don't be overwhelmed by the amount of mattresses around...these display models are there to test, and for impulse buys from individuals who have not done their homework previously.

Walk up the store assistant and explain what you are looking for, and then asked to be shown what they have in stock. If they are good they will take you straight there and not try to blindside you with something else.

So there it is infront of you...a mattress you might be taking home. Explore every detail.

-Does it look right?
-Does it smell ok?
-Can you picture it in your bedroom?

The most important thing to do here is (and we can't stress this enough) CLIMB ON. You must always TRY BEFORE YOU BUY.

The amount of people that get a mattress home only to find it's not the right one is unbelievable. If the assistant says you can't get on, give him an earfull or walk out. Afterall, they aren't the ones who will be using it! When you're on there don't just lay back and relax the whole time. Remember when you were a kid and jumped up and down on your bed? Do that a bit, just not as obviously...this will test if the mattress is the right build quality for you. Some other things to be aware of are:

-Is it comfy?
-Does it provide you with enough support?
-Is it the right size? (Hopefully, but if your feet stick off the end go for the next size up)

So if you buy the mattress there and then, make sure you get a good price...and make sure you get at least a 5 year guarentee. Some manufacturers will even give you a lifetime guarentee!

Alternatively, you could do the above and find the exact mattress you want and then go home and look online for some cheaper deals. It's common for online retailers to do great deals on bedding mattresses and pillows, much cheaper than stores. A great place to start looking is Amazon.com

Getting Your Mattress Home

If the store is good, you'll probably get a free home delivery, or at least discounted. Don't let the store push you around here...tell them you want it delivered exactly when you want it delivered. Got a busy schedule? Well ask them to hang on to it for a few days. If they turn round and say they can deliver it on the day, even better!

Your bedding mattress should be delivered in a protective box or plastic sheet. If it's not, ask why. You havn't spend all that money only for it to be wrecked in a delivery van. Furthermore, check the mattress before you accept it. If it has any marking or damage at all...reject it! Phone the store and ask for a replacement to be sent immediately. You're not here to buy sub standard goods afterall.

Put the mattress on your (new) bed and make sure it fits ok. Climb aboard again just to make sure. Hopefully it will be 100% perfect and there will be no problems...but if there are better to find them earlier than later!

The final thing to do is to dress the mattress, and fall asleep on it. Relaxation to the max. Maybe you could even purchase some relaxing music
to aid your restful sleep.

Buying a Bedding Mattress

Considering buying a memory foam mattress, but new to the memory foam product world? Don’t worry, in this article we will go through the more important things to consider when considering which memory foam mattress is right for you. When considering all of the options, it can be rather staggering from all the different choices. “How do they make so many different types of memory foam mattresses?” you may ask. Just like regular innerspring mattresses, memory foam mattresses do vary in firmness as well as other factors as well.

First thing a person would want to consider when looking for a good memory foam mattress is density. The reason for this is because many memory foam mattress consumers have had a few issues after purchasing memory foam mattresses of densities below 4 lbs. Four pound density memory four mattresses are our recommendation in order to avoid any avoidable sagging in the mattress. However, one exception would be memory foam toppers which can be placed on top of a regular mattress to give it a ‘feel’ of a real memory foam mattress, but these are not as thick as regular mattresses and could potentially wear out sooner than a regular mattress. more and more higher density memory foam mattresses are becoming available nowadays.

Second thing to look for would be a good ILD rating. The ILD rating on a memory foam mattress is the rating of the actual firmness of the mattress determined through a series of tests of the visco elastic material used in the manufacturing of the memory foam mattress. If you would like to compare ILD ratings to that of a Tempurpedic mattress, then an ILD rating of around 13 to 15 should be about right. Firmness is a very big issue for many individuals who experience back pain, fibromyalgia as well as other chronic pain related conditions and diseases. So make sure you get the right memory foam mattress with the firmness and density that best fits your needs. Also, be sure to take advantage of any free trial offers that many memory foam mattress manufacturers now offer!

The next things to consider after density and firmness would be resilience and tensility, if you would really like to go into detail. There are indeed more tests that are done on the memory foam materials in mattresses around the world including stretching the material as far as it can go. This test is the tensility test and this really does not apply to normal household usage of memory foam as the pressure of the body on top of it is about as far as the stretching will go in regards to the memory foam mattress.

When considering resilience, you may want to consider whether or not you would like a highly resilient, or HR, memory foam mattress which is more like an innerspring mattress as the whole benefit of memory foam is the fact that it is made of temperature sensitive material which conforms to the contours of your body. This ‘cradling’ relieves pressure in more injured and/or fevered areas of the body. The benefits of memory foam mattresses are enormous when considering how memory foam affects the body by relieving pressure points while providing spinal alignment, a better night’s sleep and more. So make sure you select your new memory foam mattress carefully as high quality memory foam mattresses can last for many years to come.
